Arathepoet Appeals For Support For Youth Talent Centre In Nankese

Poet and talent advocate Arathepoet has called for greater support for youth talent development in Nankese in the Eastern Region, saying many gifted young people in rural communities lack opportunities to develop their skills.

Speaking on Culture Daily on 3Music TV, on Monday, June 1, Ara said he has spent the past six years training children in dance, music, poetry, drama and cultural performance to help them build careers through their talents.

According to him, the initiative was born out of his concern over talented young people whose abilities often go unnoticed and unsupported.

“I saw talent coming and talent fading, so I decided to step in,” he said.

Ara said one of the biggest challenges facing the project is the perception that talent development is not a viable pathway for young people.

He noted that although the response from participating children has been encouraging, securing support for the programme remains difficult.

“People don’t really believe in talent in this community,” he said.

Several children enrolled in the programme appeared on the show and shared their aspirations of becoming professional dancers.

The group later performed a cultural dance routine dressed in kente cloth.

Ara expressed hope that increased exposure would attract individuals and organisations willing to support the project and help expand opportunities for young people in the area.
