Minority MP Seeks Weija-Gbawe Dam Spillage Briefing
Patrick Yaw Boamah

Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah has urged the House to call a meeting with the Minister of Works and Housing to discuss the ongoing flooding along the Accra-Cape Coast highway.

The Minority MP claims that numerous vehicles are frequently left stranded for hours due to the ongoing flooding after heavy rains, which continues to cause major problems for drivers and commuters using the stretch.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Mr. Boamah stated that the situation has gotten concerning, particularly after recent rains caused portions of the route to become flooded.

“If you look at pictures and videos from the western part of Accra, especially where Honourable Ayariga drives through to Winneba, and to Cape Coast, the whole area was submerged yesterday,” he said.

He stated that the government must provide an explanation of the immediate actions being taken to deal with the flooding crisis, especially with regard to drainage infrastructure and the effects of the Weija Dam spillage.

Hearing from the Works and Housing Minister about the government's efforts to repair the drainage system will be crucial.

According to him, hearing from the Works and Housing Minister about the government's efforts to repair the drainage system will be crucial.

“It will be very important for us to hear from the Works and Housing Minister on the steps that the government is taking to get the drainage system fixed. The Weija Dam was opened, and people are just homeless in Accra,” he stated.

Mr. Boamah went on to detail the degree of the disruption brought on by the floodwaters, saying that it was now very difficult to go along that road.
