Ghanaian musician Article Wan recently sat down with Essilfua on 3Music TV's 3hread Special, offering an intimate look into his musical evolution, challenges faced, and upcoming projects.
Article Wan fondly reminisced his humble beginnings, sharing how his early fascination with creating sounds using his mother's dinnerware ignited his passion for music. His journey into music production took form when a friend introduced him to the former music duo 5Five. Determined to learn, he dedicated himself to mastering music production, investing in software for his laptop to refine his skills. Raised in a musical household where his mother frequently sang, Article Wan's connection to music runs deep from his formative years.
Explaining the origin of his stage name, Article Wan articulated its symbolic meaning: A for African artiste, R for Real, T for Talented, I for Important, C for Creative, L for Lyrics, and E for Entertainer. The distinctive spelling of "Wan" reflects his aspiration to stand out as an entertainer in the industry.
Reflecting on his breakthrough moment with the hit song SOLO, Article Wan acknowledged the opportunities it brought, including collaborations with industry giants like Stonebwoy on the remix. He expressed gratitude to Stonebwoy for supporting him during his ascent in the music scene. Article Wan also highlighted his work with renowned producer Jayso, which led to recording sessions with Sarkodie and Yaa Pono, further solidifying his presence in the industry.
Addressing the topic of his apparent hiatus from music, Article Wan clarified that he never considered it a break but rather a shift in focus due to the competitive nature of the industry. He emphasized the cyclical nature of music trends where artistes experience phases of heightened attention followed by shifts in audience focus. Despite these challenges, Article Wan says he remained dedicated to his craft, continuously working on new music projects.
Discussing his latest single, JUDGE ME, Article Wan revealed its inspiration rooted in his observations of human judgment. Drawing from personal experiences of being judged and judging others, the song carries a poignant message about empathy and understanding. Opting for a visualizer over a full music video for JUDGE ME, Article Wan explained his strategy to prioritize song promotion while planning to release a proper video when the timing and resources align.
Looking ahead, Article Wan teased upcoming singles slated for release this year, promising fans new music that reflects his growth as an artiste. He expressed excitement about these projects and urged his supporters to stay tuned for what's to come.
Closing the interview, Article Wan extended heartfelt appreciation to his fans for their unwavering support, reaffirming his commitment to delivering music that resonates with listeners on a deeper level.
