Ghanaian entrepreneur and creative industry advocate, Baba Sadiq, has urged the Creative Arts Agency to take proactive steps in gathering and publishing accurate data on the country’s creative economy.

According to Baba Sadiq, the absence of reliable data continues to limit the growth, recognition and investment potential of Ghana’s creative industry. He emphasized that while the sector contributes significantly to employment, innovation and cultural preservation, its impact often goes unmeasured due to the lack of structured documentation.

“If we want the world to take Ghana’s creative industry seriously, we must back our conversations with data. We can’t keep guessing the value of our work or the number of people the industry employs,” Baba Sadiq stated.

He further noted that accurate data would help shape government policy, attract investors and empower creatives with insights that inform decision-making and advocacy. Baba Sadiq therefore called on the Creative Arts Agency to collaborate with stakeholders, including creative unions, researchers and academic institutions to establish a comprehensive national database for the sector.

The advocate highlighted that data on sub-sectors such as music, film, fashion, digital arts and crafts would not only help quantify the industry’s contribution to GDP but also identify growth areas that require support.

“Without data, we can’t measure progress. We can’t justify funding. We can’t show the world how far we’ve come or where we’re heading,” he added.

Baba Sadie’s call adds to the ongoing conversation about institutional support and accountability within Ghana’s creative space. As the Creative Arts Agency continues its mandate to promote and regulate the sector, many believe that developing a robust data-driven framework could be a turning point in positioning Ghana as a competitive creative hub in Africa.
