Veteran music producer and sound engineer Fred Kyei Mensah, popularly known as Fredyma, has opened up about the darkest moment of his life, the tragic June 3rd flood and fire disaster that nearly drove him to take his own life.

In a heartfelt interview with Kafui Dey, Fredyma recounted how the devastating incident wiped away everything he had worked for over decades, including 10 cars loaded with musical instruments, studio equipment and personal belongings.

I lost everything in one day. Everything I had ever worked for was gone. I nearly committed suicide, he revealed emotionally.

The June 3, 2015 disaster remains one of Ghana’s most tragic events, claiming over 150 lives and destroying countless properties in Accra. For Fredyma, it was not just a national tragedy but a deeply personal loss that tested his faith, resilience and will to live.

Despite the immense pain, Fredyma shared how he gradually found strength to rebuild his life. He expressed gratitude to friends, family and well-wishers who supported him through that difficult period and reflected on the importance of mental health and emotional support for people facing similar crises.

Fred Kyei Mensah’s story stands as a moving reminder of survival, faith and perseverance in the face of unimaginable loss, a testimony to the human spirit’s ability to rise again even after being broken.
