Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, is set to officially launch the third edition of the Democracy Cup on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Parliament House. The ceremony will be held at the Justice D. F. Annan Auditorium at 11:00 GMT, marking another milestone in the growing sports initiative that merges football with national development goals.
The Democracy Cup, spearheaded by the Parliament of Ghana, aims to promote democratic values through sport while fostering national unity and civic responsibility. Over time, the competition has developed into a unique platform that connects football, governance and national identity leveraging the unifying power of sport to encourage peaceful coexistence and active citizenship.

This year’s launch is expected to bring together a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, Members of Parliament, representatives from the sporting community, corporate partners and members of the diplomatic corps. Organisers have indicated that further details such as participating clubs, fixtures and prize packages will be unveiled during the event.
