Dr Omane Boamah’s Legacy Continues To Guide Elections Work - NDC’s Election Directorate

Deputy Director for Elections and IT, Rashid Tanko-Computer, has said that the legacy of the late Dr Edward Omane Boamah continues to shape the work of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Elections Directorate, one year after the former minister died in a military helicopter crash.

Speaking in an interview with 3Music TV on the sidelines of the National Inter-Faith Memorial Service in Accra on Thursday, Mr Tanko-Computer described the past year as one of the most difficult periods for those who worked closely with Dr Omane Boamah.

He said he served as deputy director under Dr Omane Boamah during the party’s preparations for the 2024 general election and continued working with him in the early months of 2025.

“It came to us as a shock when we lost him last year in August. Getting a replacement has not been easy at all,” he said.

Mr Tanko-Computer said the remaining members of the Elections Directorate had continued to implement Dr Omane Boamah’s ideas and organisational approach, which he said had contributed to the successful conduct of the party’s recent branch elections.

“We are carrying through his legacy. What he taught us, we are living through it,” he told 3Music TV.

Reflecting on the helicopter crash, Mr Tanko-Computer said Ghana had learned important lessons from the tragedy. He noted that the delegation had been travelling to launch a responsible community mining initiative aimed at addressing illegal mining.

He said the government remained committed to combating illegal mining and prosecuting those who finance the activity.

“The president is keen on making sure that this galamsey will be a thing of the past, and all those who are sponsoring it and financing it will be fished out and dealt with according to the law,” he said.
