Lyrical Joe Marks 10 Years Of 5TH AUGUST Series With EP

Award-winning Ghanaian rapper Lyrical Joe has officially released Birth of Oheneba, the 10th edition of his iconic 5th August series, marking a decade of one of Ghana's most celebrated annual hip-hop traditions.

Since launching the series in 2017 as a birthday gift to fans, Lyrical Joe has consistently used every August 5 release to showcase elite lyricism, storytelling and technical rap ability.

Over the years, fans have been treated to projects including 5th August 2017, 5th August 2018, 5th August 2019, 5th August 2020, 5th August V, 5th August VI, 5th August VII, 5th August VIII, and 5th August IX, each raising the bar for Ghanaian rap.

This year's release marks a significant shift, as the annual offering evolves into a full EP for the very first time.

Speaking about the project ahead of its release, Lyrical Joe described Birth of Oheneba as more than just another instalment of the series. "Previous years I made the pen bleed. This year, I made the pen cry tears of joy," he shared while announcing the EP.

The title, "Birth of Oheneba," draws inspiration from his Akan name, symbolising royalty, growth and self-affirmation.

Throughout the years, the 5th August series has become one of Ghana's most anticipated annual rap releases, earning critical acclaim for its intricate lyricism, compelling storytelling and consistency, with the fifth edition notably receiving Best Rap Performance recognition.
