Liberia Camp Residents Urge Faster Completion of Kasoa-Winneba Road Project

Residents of Liberia Camp on the Kasoa-Winneba Stretch are calling on authorities to hasten the road construction project on the highway to ease traffic congestion.

The dualization project of the Kasoa–Winneba Road began somewhere in March 2024 is expected to be completed by late 2026 or early quarter of 2027.

The project converts a critical 30-kilometer stretch of the N1 highway into a multi-lane dual carriageway to alleviate heavy traffic congestion and improve safety.

3Music TV visited the stretch, interacting with motorists, drivers and business owners along the road, and they reported difficult livelihoods due to the construction.

A commercial motorbike rider also known as Okada told us that the project has increased their fuel consumption on the road.

"The road construction has really become a problem for us especially with fuel consumption. Fuel prices are high now and so when we buy fuel and ride on the road with first and second gear, it finishes before the day ends. So we are pleading with the government to prioritize the Kasoa road project," the rider said.

Another shared that although the road construction is a good initiative, the expansion plan is not favouring businesses and causing dusty environment.

"The road construction is a good thing but it is not being done well. The reason is that when we pick passengers, instead of using the normal short route, we rather have to turn around and make a U-turn before we alight them. Another thing is the dust, the construction has brought too much dust in the atmosphere and also caused traffic. Passengers are not even coming around again," he said.

Also speaking to 3Music TV was a business owner close to the project, noting that the road project is a good initiative and urged public patience as the work continues.

While some shared their displeasure with the manner in which the construction is unfolding, many others are of the view that the long-term goal of the project is for a national development.
