Ghanaian artiste and creative Marince Omario has traced his long-standing relationship with musicians including Black Sherif and Joker Nana to a collective they formed while they were students in 2014.
According to him, the collective was built around a shared ambition to develop their individual careers while supporting one another.
He said the idea began when he was in Form 2 at St Thomas Aquinas Senior High School, where he and his friends decided to operate as a collective rather than as a conventional music group.
“We started way back in St Thomas Aquinas,” he said.
According to Marince, the group included Joker Nana and other friends who contributed to the collective in different ways.
He said their approach was inspired by the idea of independent artistes working together, sharing resources and creating opportunities for one another.
“We just put energy together,” he said.
Marince said their early activities included music, hosting and other creative works. He described a bedroom belonging to his friend as their informal office at the time.
The collective later developed into individual careers, with members pursuing their own music while maintaining the relationships and collaborative spirit that had brought them together.
Marince described Black Sherif and Joker Nana as family and said they continue to share ideas, create music and support each other’s ambitions.
“They are family. Like they are my squad,” he said.
His comments come as Marince receives increased attention for his creative work, including recognition from musicians such as Joker Nana and Black Sherif.
He said the recognition was not something he had planned as a strategy but attributed it partly to the years of work and relationships built within their creative circle.
“I would say it’s divine,” he said.
Marince also spoke about his involvement in Adwuma Wura, a project by the High Life Collective, which brings together himself, Rie Osei Ess thee Legend, front headed by producer Abrantie Simms - the collective’s co-founder
Aside from Adwuma Wura, he’s promoting Ade Akye, Dominance and Trophy in anticipation of a joint EP with $pacely and 05 LONA.
He explained that the High Life Collective operates as an initiative and record label focused on bringing attention to Ghanaian artistes and sounds that deserve greater visibility.
The project, he said, reflects the collective’s broader interest in supporting artistes while highlighting elements of Ghanaian music within contemporary sounds.
For Marince, the experience represents another stage in a journey that began with a group of young creatives putting their resources together and working towards individual ambitions while remaining connected.
