At the 6th edition of the 3Media Women’s Brunch, Ghanaian filmmaker and creative leader, Juliet Asantewaa Asante, delivered a heartfelt reflection on transformation, growth and the ever-evolving journey of womanhood.
Speaking to a room filled with women across generations and industries, Juliet centered her message on one powerful idea: women are constantly reinventing themselves and that, in itself, is a strength.
“I want to talk about transformation and reinvention and how women are always changing,” she began, highlighting what she described as one of the most remarkable traits women have perfected over time.
She walked the audience through the different stages of a woman’s life from being a daughter, experiencing menstruation, navigating marriage, childbirth and motherhood, to watching children grow and eventually entering new phases like menopause. Each stage, she noted, comes with its own physical, emotional and mental shifts.
Yet, despite these transitions, there is no manual.
“There’s no book or path that says this is how you have to do it,” she pointed out, emphasizing the uncertainty that often accompanies these life changes. Instead, she encouraged women to lean into community as a source of guidance and reassurance.
According to Juliet, spaces like the Women’s Brunch are essential because they allow women to share experiences and learn from one another in real, honest ways. Whether it’s asking a fellow woman about menopause, navigating children’s growth stages or balancing a demanding career, these shared conversations create a support system that no textbook can provide.
In a relatable moment, she shared her own experience of reinvention, revealing that she is currently raising her adopted daughter, who is still in school. This, she explained, has brought her back into a phase of active parenting she thought she had already moved past.
“I thought I was in my menopause and had forgotten everything,” she said with a touch of humor, “but here I am, going through it all again.”
Her story underscored a deeper truth: growth never truly ends.
“As women, we are in all of that transformational phase,” she said, describing it as the power of reinvention, the ability to adapt, evolve and rediscover oneself at every stage of life.
Juliet concluded by expressing her hope that women leave such gatherings with a sense of comfort, belonging and openness to embrace wherever they are in life. Reflecting on a conversation with fellow attendee Yvonne Ocloo, she highlighted the importance of understanding what each phase of life means individually and collectively.
Her message was both empowering and reassuring. A reminder that there is no single path to womanhood and that in every phase lies an opportunity to grow, connect and begin again.
