Ghana And Burkina Faso Sign Defence Deal To Secure Key Trade Corridors
Ghana and Burkina Faso delegates
Ghana and Burkina Faso have signed a Defence Cooperation Agreement aimed at strengthening security along vital cross-border trade routes linking the two countries.

The agreement was signed by Ghana’s Acting Minister for Defence, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, and Burkina Faso’s Minister of State and Minister of War and Patriotic Defence, Major General Célestin Simporé.

It provides for security and escort support along major trade corridors. Officials said the deal is designed to protect traders and transporters, safeguard the movement of goods, and support economic activity between the neighbouring nations.

Burkina Faso, a landlocked country, depends heavily on road corridors through Ghana to access regional ports for imports and exports. The new cooperation is intended to help secure these critical supply routes amid ongoing security challenges in the Sahel region.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Ghana’s Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, the Deputy Minister for Defence, and members of the Burkinabè delegation.

Both countries described the agreement as a step toward deeper bilateral defence ties and greater economic stability along their shared border.
