Kofi Nti

Ghanaian highlife musician Kofi Nti has disclosed that veteran artiste Ofori Amponsah owns the master recordings of his breakthrough 2004 album Rakia, and that Ofori introduced him to the producer known as Big Ben.

Speaking in an interview on a Hitz 103.9 FM programme on Tuesday, Nti said the connection to Big Ben proved pivotal in his early career.

He also confirmed that Ofori Amponsah holds the masters to the full Rakia project, which featured their popular collaborative title track.

The album, released under Big Ben Music Production, helped establish Nti in Ghana’s music scene. Ofori Amponsah, also known as All 4 Real, contributed as a writer and featured artiste on key songs.

Nti’s comments shed light on the informal arrangements common in the Ghanaian music industry at the time, when formal contracts were often limited.

The revelation has drawn attention among fans of the classic highlife/hiplife era.
