Veteran Nollywood Actress Patience Ozokwor has addressed why she is repeatedly cast as a witch and other villainous characters in Nollywood films during a recent conversation with content creator and streamer Carter Efe.

Carter Efe asked the veteran actress about her consistent portrayal of witches.

Ozokwor responded with a mix of humor and purpose, at one point declaring that she is the “CEO of witchcraft in Nollywood.”

She further explained that she believes God assigned her the niche because of her dislike for injustice and conflict. Through these roles, she said, she is able to “bring justice to those who take part in them.”

Popularly known as Mama G, Ozokwor is a long-standing figure in the Nigerian film industry who has built much of her career on strong, antagonistic roles, including strict mothers-in-law, manipulative stepmothers, and supernatural villains.

She has previously stated in other interviews that her intention with such characters is to expose societal ills and negative behaviors that occur in real life but are often ignored, rather than to promote evil.

She has emphasized the distinction between her on-screen personas and her real-life personality.

Fans and observers have long noted how effectively she embodies these roles, which helped cement her fame starting from earlier classics that earned her the endearing “Mama G” moniker.

While the portrayals have occasionally led to public stigma, Ozokwor has maintained that the work educates audiences and highlights issues affecting families and communities.
