Afrobeats superstar Davido has declared that no one could defeat him in a free and fair election in Nigeria, including a presidential contest, while accusing the country’s electoral process of lacking transparency.

The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, made the remarks during a livestream with content creator Carter Efe in early August 2026. When asked about the possibility of governing a state or seeking political office, Davido said he has no immediate interest in entering politics under the current system.

“Nobody can beat me in any election, never! In a free and fair election, I can win presidential election in Nigeria,” he said. He added that he would focus on his music career “until there is transparency, then I can go ahead and contest for elective positions.”

Davido argued that election results in Nigeria are often manipulated. “Nigeria wey dem dey write result? I no get time for all those ones,” he said, using Nigerian Pidgin. “Because I no be all those ones wey you go cheat me, I go go sleep for house. I will do something to you if you cheat me.” He also referenced the upcoming Osun State governorship election, saying he was waiting to see how it would unfold.

Davido, one of Africa’s most popular musicians with a large following, has previously engaged with political issues but has not indicated plans to run for office.

His statements highlight ongoing public debates about electoral integrity in Nigeria ahead of key state elections. Davido emphasized that he would only consider politics if the process became transparent enough for voters’ choices to determine the outcome.
