Minister of Education Haruna Idrisu has announced that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results will be released by July 31.

The release of the results will be followed by the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

The Minister, speaking at the Government's Accountability Series on Monday, July 20, said that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) was responsible for releasing the results and he would not interfere with the process.

"As I've always indicated as Minister, I don't interfere with the work of assessment institutions of WAEC. It is within their domain," Mr Iddrisu said.

He however said that the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has informed him the results could released before the end of July.

"I'm reliably informed by the Director-General of GES that on or before 31st July, the BECE results may be released," he added.

The Minister also acknowledged difficulties parents and children encounter throughout the school placement process, particularly in light of the growing demand for senior high school education and the inadequate infrastructure.

Although he acknowledged that the government does not currently have enough resources to adequately solve the issue, he stated that ongoing initiatives, such as the Sustainable Development for Improved Access to Tertiary Education and Jobs (STAR-J) project, are intended to increase infrastructure.

"Justifiably so, in truth, we have not had the resources to respond head-on to this challenge. In order to resolve it, we need adequate resources to expand infrastructure by way of classroom blocks and then lecture theatres," he said.

Haruna Idrisu pleaded for patience as government works to improve the placement system.
