The Management of Central University has officially suspended all remaining activities for this year’s Students' Representative Council (SRC) Week celebrations following the arrest of five students by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).
The arrests were made in connection with the alleged trade of cannabis-laced products on the university campus.
In a press statement signed by the Registrar, the university administration confirmed it is aware of the situation and is actively engaging with law enforcement to verify the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
"At this stage, the University is engaging with NACOC and other relevant authorities to establish the facts and obtain verified information regarding the circumstances surrounding the matter," the statement read.
The drug bust reportedly took place during a campus event linked to the ongoing SRC Week celebrations.
As a direct response to ensure student safety, management has halted all remaining activities lined up up for the celebration.
The University is of the view that the suspension is a precautionary measure to allow for a thorough review of how campus events are organized and managed.
The administration urged the university community and the public to refrain from spreading rumors while investigations are underway.
"As investigations are ongoing, Management considers it important to avoid speculation and allow the due process of the law to take its course," the Registrar noted.
The University's management assured parents, alumni, staff, and the general public that it is cooperating fully with NACOC.
Central University Management reiterated that it maintains a zero-tolerance to indiscipline and remains dedicated to providing a safe environment for learning.
"Central University remains firmly committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and conducive environment for learning, while upholding the highest standards of discipline, responsibility, and integrity expected of all members of its community," the statement concluded.
Investigations are currently ongoing into the campus drug network by NACOC and the University assured further updates once verified facts are available.
