Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has imposed a curfew on a number of communities in the Nkwanta South Municipality on the recommendation of the National Security Council and through an Executive Instrument.
This follows a deadly attack that resulted in three fatalities and nine injuries.
The curfew will be imposed every day from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice, starting on Friday, June 19, 2026.
Affected communities include; Keri, Abrewanko, Abrewanko Junction, Nyambo, Nyambo Junction, Shari, Kromase, Power, Nyakoma, Odomi, Bonakye, and Nkwanta.
Chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, young people, and locals in the impacted areas were urged by the government in a statement to use moderation and adopt peaceful methods of settling disputes.
Authorities also cautioned impacted towns of carrying and possessing firearms, ammunition and other offensive weapons.
Anyone found in possession of such weapons would be detained and subject to legal prosecution, security services have warned.
The curfew stems from an attack in Odomi on Thursday, June 18, which has increased tensions in the municipality and necessitated an instant response from the government.
The incident resulted in nine gunshot wounds and three fatalities.
Government says the limitations are meant to help preserve security and restore calm.
