Essence Festival 2023 nominates Francis Y Brown's Animation Film, ROOM 5

Ghanaian short animation film, Room 5, has been nominated in the 2023 Essence Film Festival. The film which was directed by Francis Y. Brown showcases how patients are treated by nurses when they visit the hospital, it also portrays how people are afraid of injection.


In 2021 the film was shortlisted to be screened on New York Shorts International Film Festival. It has also received various awards across the world including Best Animation at the Africa International Film Festival in 2016, Best African Film at the Abidjan Animation Awards in 2023 and many more.


The animation was created by Production Company Animax FYB Studios which has other films to their credit, including Jabari, set for a 2023 premiere, TuTu, which is in the development stage and Room 5 which can be found on YouTube.


The founder of Animax FYB Studios, Francis Y. Brown, has received recognition across the world including features in the international media space. The Ghanaian filmmaker was honoured at a laureate of Africa 35 under 35 as one of the inspiring young entrepreneurs under 35.


The 2023 Essence Film Festival of Culture takes off from June 30-July 2. The event will take place in New Orleans a city in Louisiana. This was announced in a post by Essence Festival on social media.


The Essencefest presented by Coca-Cola seeks to showcase storytellers across the African Diaspora through original screening of film, television, new media plus a panel discussion, workshops, celebrity events and more.


The event this year will have performance by African artistes - Wizkid, Tems and Kizz Daniel.
