Ghanaian streetwear brand Free The Youth has confirmed that its long-awaited debut album will be released in the coming months, marking the collective’s latest step beyond fashion into music and other creative industries.
According to the brand’s co-sponsor Kelly, the project has been in development for about five years.
He made the revelation when the group appeared on the Morning Bite segment of Culture Daily on 3Music TV and Pluzz 89.9 FM.
He said the group had spoken about the album before, but this time its release was much closer.
“It’s been a long time, for about five years now that we’ve been working on an album. It’s out soon,” he said.
Kelly said the album is expected before the end of the year, adding that fans should anticipate its release within the next few months.
The project will add to Free The Youth’s growing list of creative ventures, following previous music collaborations, including work with rapper Kwesi Arthur.
He noted that while only one of their collaborative songs has been officially released, the group has worked on several other records with the artiste over the years.
“We’ve worked several times, but this is the only song that has been out,” he said, adding that more collaborations with different artistes are also in the pipeline.
The announcement reflects the group’s wider creative direction, which Kelly said has never been limited to fashion.
According to him, Free The Youth was established as a cultural lifestyle brand with interests spanning fashion, music, and art.
He explained that music naturally fits into the collective’s vision because it offers another way to express its ideas and connect with audiences.
“It’s way beyond just fashion. It’s a whole cultural lifestyle brand. We do a lot of things, not just music, not just fashion,” he said.
Kelly also suggested that members of the collective often work behind the scenes rather than as performing artistes themselves.
He compared their role to producing and directing creative projects, saying the music may belong to the collective even when others perform it.
Free The Youth has grown into one of Ghana’s most recognisable streetwear brands over the past decade.
Alongside its expansion in fashion, the collective has increasingly positioned itself as a platform for youth culture and creative expression.
The upcoming album is expected to further strengthen that identity by extending its influence into the country’s music industry.
