LALI onthisone Turns Grief Into Hope on New Four-Track EP ASHIOKOR

Ghanaian Afro-fusion artiste LALI onthisone has released his deeply personal four-track EP, ASHIOKOR, a heartfelt project inspired by the life and memory of his late aunt.

The EP, which explores themes of grief, resilience, heartbreak, faith and hope, offers listeners an intimate look into LALI’s emotional journey while highlighting his determination to keep moving forward despite life’s challenges.

At the heart of the project is the title track, ASHIOKOR, which serves as a tribute to LALI’s late aunt, who passed away on October 10, 2024. Blending English and Ga, the song captures the raw emotions surrounding her loss, including grief, disbelief and longing.

Through the song, LALI reflects on the impact his aunt had on his life, expressing gratitude for the love and support she gave him while promising to continue pursuing his dreams and make her proud. ASHIOKOR therefore becomes both a farewell and a celebration of a life whose influence continues to shape his journey.

The EP continues with KORKORDENE featuring Marince Omario, a song built around the Ga word for frog. LALI uses the frog’s ability to thrive both on land and in water as a metaphor for adaptability and resilience, encouraging listeners to navigate life’s difficult moments with the same strength and flexibility they bring to its happier seasons.

On FAR AWAY featuring Pheebz, LALI explores a different kind of pain, the heartbreak that comes from losing someone who once promised to remain close. The emotional record tells a story of betrayal, distance and longing as he reflects on a relationship that gradually slipped away.

The EP closes with ALRIGHT featuring Eli Khay, an uplifting Afro-fusion record centered on resilience, gratitude and authenticity. Once again blending English with Ga, LALI reflects on the struggles of life while reinforcing the belief that faith, hard work and staying true to oneself can help overcome difficult seasons.

Across its four tracks, ASHIOKOR presents LALI onthisone at his most vulnerable and reflective. Rather than allowing personal loss to define the project solely through sadness, he transforms grief into a message of healing, growth and determination.
