The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has launched a nationwide Labour Migration Readiness Campaign to educate Ghanaians, particularly young people, on the dangers of illegal migration while promoting safe and legal routes to overseas employment.

The campaign, which is being implemented through YEA's Labour Exchange Programme, aims to raise awareness about the risks associated with irregular migration, including exploitation, human trafficking and unsafe working conditions.

It also seeks to equip prospective migrant workers with the information they need to make informed decisions before seeking employment abroad.

The launch brought together key stakeholders, including the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, and the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo.

The two ministers reaffirmed the government's commitment to creating decent employment opportunities and ensuring that labour migration takes place through legal and secure channels.

Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency, Maleek Basintale said illegal migration continues to expose many young Ghanaians to serious risks.

He said the agency remains committed to providing credible opportunities for Ghanaians to work abroad through its Labour Exchange Programme, with an emphasis on safe, dignified and regulated migration.

The nationwide sensitisation roadshow forms part of YEA's broader efforts to strengthen public awareness of legal migration pathways and prepare prospective migrant workers for overseas employment.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with GIZ, Absa Bank Ghana, the Ghana Immigration Service and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The partners say the campaign reflects their shared commitment to promoting safe migration and protecting Ghana's workforce.
