From Rejection to Recognition – Lali X Lola’s Business Mindset Shines
Lali X Lola
Lali X Lola might be stealing the spotlight in Ghana’s music scene, but don’t let the red hair and catchy singles fool you—these twins are playing a bigger game. During a sit-down on 3Music TV’s Big Conversation, they pulled back the curtain on a journey that’s as much about business smarts as it is about beats. What came through wasn’t just a story of talent, but of grit, strategy, and a vision that stretches way beyond the stage.
Long before they were dropping tracks like Pepper Dem, Lali X Lola were juggling textbooks and a startup called Safe Tech as two university students lugging programmable power guards—think fancy surge protectors—around Accra, pitching them to offices and homes. “Rejection was part of the deal,” Lola said with a shrug that carried years of experience. “We’d knock on doors, hear ‘no’ a dozen times, and keep going. It didn’t faze us.” That same steel spine followed them into music, where they’ve spent the last three years building something solid. Daily planning sessions? Non-negotiable. “We focus on what we can control—the work, the output,” Lali added. “The rest falls into place.”
Their dad’s a big piece of the puzzle, too. He’s not just “daddy” in the classic sense—he’s a former artist manager who’s been in the trenches and knows the ropes. He’s their shield, keeping the money worries at bay so they can dream big. “He’s our strategist,” Lola said, her tone warm but matter-of-fact. “He’s why we can think long-term.” And long-term is exactly what they’re after. Lali let slip a teaser that turned heads: “Music’s just the start—it’s a means to an end.” They’re laying groundwork for something broader, maybe even dipping into new industries down the line.
Take their latest move as proof they’re not messing around. It’s not about chasing clout—it’s about shaping the landscape they’re standing on. And they’re doing it while dropping a single every month this year.
Back in their Safe Tech days, they learned to sell a product people didn’t even know they needed. Now, they’re selling a vision—wrapped in music, branded with that fiery red hair, and backed by a mindset that doesn’t flinch at a closed door. “Success isn’t streams or awards,” Lali said, her voice steady with conviction. “It’s about putting down bricks, one by one, for something that lasts.” For these two, every rejection was just fuel, every “no” a nudge to figure out a better way. From hawking power guards to pushing for industry change, Lali X Lola aren’t just artistes—they’re entrepreneurs with their eyes on a legacy that’ll outlive the hype.
