His Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, is reported to be in stable condition after being involved in a road accident in the early hours of Thursday, February 19, 2026.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 am at Pai-Katanga in the Oti Region while the traditional ruler was returning to Accra from Tamale following a private visit to the Yaa Naa, the overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom in the Northern Region.
According to official accounts and sources close to the palace, the Ga Mantse’s vehicle was involved in a collision during the return journey. Despite the severity of the crash, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II escaped unharmed and is in good spirits, surrounded by family and palace officials.

The visit to the Yaa Naa formed part of ongoing efforts by traditional leaders to strengthen unity and relationships among the country’s chieftaincy institutions.
While the Ga Mantse was fortunate to avoid serious injury, his driver sustained critical injuries in the crash and was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. The extent of the driver’s injuries has not yet been fully disclosed and medical personnel continue to monitor his condition.
Security personnel, including the Ghana Police Service, responded promptly to the scene and facilitated the transportation of the driver to medical facilities. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is currently underway, with authorities urging motorists to exercise caution, particularly on long‐distance night journeys.
King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II’s leadership of the Ga State is significant within Ghana’s traditional hierarchy. Over the past years, he has played an active role in promoting unity among diverse ethnic and chieftaincy groups across the country.
