The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has forecast thundery rains over parts of the Ashanti, Bono East and Savannah regions on Monday afternoon, despite a rainstorm that was earlier reported across the country is gradually weakening.
According to GMet’s latest 18-hour forecast issued on Monday, June 15, the weakening weather system is expected to continue generating cloudiness and rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in portions of the three regions later in the day.
The agency said a mix of sunshine and cloudy conditions will dominate most areas along the coast, middle belt and northern sectors during the afternoon.
However, residents in some coastal and middle-sector communities should also expect possible thunderstorms or rainfall later in the day.
The forecast indicates a 40% probability of thunderstorms with rain in several locations, including Accra, Kasoa, Winneba, Cape Coast, Ho, Koforidua, Akim Oda, Kwaku Tafo, Tarkwa, Atebubu and Ejura.
In the Ashanti Region, Kumasi is expected to experience thundery rain during the afternoon before conditions become cloudy in the evening.
The agency’s impact-based forecast places parts of the Ashanti, Bono East and Savannah regions under a moderate-risk category for rainfall activity this afternoon.
Temperatures are expected to remain highest in northern Ghana, with Bolgatanga and Nalerigu forecast to record maximum temperatures of 38 degrees Celsius, while Wa and Jirapa could reach 37 degrees Celsius. Tamale and Bole are expected to experience highs of 36 degrees Celsius.
Along the coast, maximum temperatures are forecast to range between 29 and 32 degrees Celsius, with Accra expected to reach 32 degrees Celsius during the afternoon.
GMet also warned that the state of the sea remains rough, urging caution among fishermen, boat operators and other users of marine waters.
The weather agency advised the public to stay updated with official forecasts and take necessary precautions in areas likely to experience thunderstorms and rainfall.
