Relationship coach and media personality Natalia Andoh is calling for greater balance in modern relationships, arguing that conversations about love and partnership have become increasingly focused on women’s needs while overlooking those of men.
Natalia said relationships should not be structured around one partner receiving most of the attention, affection, and support.
“I think that it goes both ways. You can’t obviously expect to be the only person. Two people are in a relationship," she said.
Her comments came during a discussion on The F Word with Lerny Lomotey on Pluzz 89.9 FM on what women wish men understood about them, where she and other panelists, Sheeana Gariba and Yasmine Bukari, shared varied views on emotional support, gift-giving, communication, and appreciation.
While acknowledging that women have needs that deserve attention, Natalia questioned the growing trend where relationship discussions appear to focus almost exclusively on what men should provide.
“I feel as though these days a relationship is more about the woman and what she wants and how she wants to be treated,” she said.
According to her, healthy relationships require mutual effort rather than one-sided expectations.
Natalia said care and support should flow in both directions, adding that women also have a responsibility to contribute positively to their relationships.
“I feel as though when you take care of a man, he takes care of you even more,” she said.
She clarified that taking care of a partner is not necessarily about money but about emotional support, understanding, and ensuring that both people feel valued.
“I’m not even talking finances. I’m just saying that you just have to make sure he’s okay at all times because he needs the state of mind to be able to provide whatever you so desire,” she explained.
The relationship coach also suggested that changing expectations may partly explain why some younger men are increasingly attracted to older women.
According to her, many younger men are drawn to older women because they offer emotional maturity, confidence and nurturing qualities that they value in relationships.
“Millennial women know how to treat men,” she said while sharing her thoughts on intergenerational dating trends.
Her remarks sparked debate among the panel, with Sheena and Yasmine arguing that many women today feel unsupported by men and therefore expect more emotional availability and practical assistance from their partners.
Despite the differing opinions, Natalia maintained that relationships function best when both partners feel seen, heard, and appreciated.
She also highlighted the importance of quality time, describing it as one of the most meaningful ways partners can show appreciation for one another.
“I think that if I have a man who makes time for me, we plan what are we going to do this weekend, and we just spend time together, I think that’s enough,” she said.
For Natalia, the foundation of any successful relationship remains mutual effort.
Rather than focusing solely on what one partner can receive, she argued that lasting relationships are built when both people are willing to give, support, and understand each other equally.
