Ghanaian afro-fusion sensation Gyakie, known for hits like FOREVER and RENT FREE, recently sat down for an in-depth interview on 3Music TV's Big Conversation, offering fans a glimpse into her personal and professional evolution. The episode, aired live on August 18, 2025, comes amid heightened anticipation for her debut album AFTER MIDNIGHT, slated for release on August 29.

During the conversation, Gyakie reflected on how music unexpectedly became her calling. Despite growing up in a musical family—her father is legendary highlife artiste Nana Acheampong—she initially had no intentions of pursuing it professionally. "I always loved music but it wasn't in my plan to become a musician until university," she shared, highlighting the pivotal role her time at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology played in shifting her path.

The singer delved into her growth as an artist, discussing lessons learned throughout her career. In a clip from the interview, Gyakie emphasized the challenges and triumphs of navigating fame, creative pressures, and personal development in the competitive music industry. She spoke candidly about balancing her studies in international business with her rising stardom, crediting early influences like her father's work and artists such as Asa and Efya for shaping her sound.

A significant portion of the interview focused on AFTER MIDNIGHT, her first full-length project following successful EPs SEED (2020) and MY DIARY (2022). Gyakie described the album as a deeply personal body of work, exploring themes of love, heartbreak, self-discovery, and resilience. She detailed the creative process, including stories behind the songs and her artistic maturation since her breakthrough. The project promises a blend of afro-fusion, R&B, and highlife elements, showcasing her versatility.

Echoing sentiments from a recent album listening party, Gyakie addressed the difficulties of curating the final tracklist. “It wasn’t easy selecting the final tracklist for the album. It was like one of the toughest things I have experienced aside from heartbreak,” she admitted. “I had to make tough choices on what songs to include and which ones to drop. I have so many amazing songs, and I’m thankful for the team around me because the final product was teamwork. We settled on 17 songs.”This revelation underscores the emotional investment in the album, which Gyakie hinted draws from late-night reflections and real-life experiences.

Fans can look forward to high-profile collaborations on AFTER MIDNIGHT, including features from Ghanaian dancehall king Shatta Wale, rapper Omar Sterling (of R2Bees), Nigerian producer Young Jonn, UK drill artiste Headie One, and American R&B star 6lack. Gyakie teased that these partnerships push her sound into new territories, blending global influences with her Ghanaian roots.

The Big Conversation appearance marks a busy promotional period for Gyakie, who has been teasing the album through social media clips and events. With her Sony Music deal amplifying her international reach, AFTER MIDNIGHT positions her as a leading voice in African music, building on her previous accolades like winning Woman of the Year at the 2022 3Music Awards.

As Gyakie steps into this new era, her story of organic growth and perseverance resonates with aspiring artistes. The full interview is available on 3Music TV's YouTube channel, where she encourages fans to tune in for more behind-the-scenes insights. With the album drop just days away, anticipation continues to build for what could be her most defining work yet.
