Gospel musician Celestine Donkor recently shared a deeply personal story about the challenges she faced in her career due to societal pressures surrounding body image. In an interview earlier this week,Celestine Donkor revealed that she was once told to lose weight with critics claiming that a plus-size woman could not make it in the music industry.
“I was told to lose weight, that a plus-size woman can’t be a hit. That affected me, and I gave up on writing and singing, focusing instead on losing weight,”Celestine Donkor confessed.
However, a turning point came when she watched a video of renowned gospel artiste Tasha Cobbs Leonard performing. The inspiring performance reignited Celestine Donkor’s passion for music and encouraged her to return to her craft.
“That video changed that and I picked up from where I stopped,” she added.
Celestine Donkor’s story highlights the struggles many artistes face when societal standards and expectations clash with personal identity and talent. Despite the challenges, her resilience and determination have allowed her to reclaim her place in the gospel music scene, proving that talent and passion are not defined by size or appearance.
Fans have applauded her honesty and courage, celebrating her as a role model for aspiring artistes navigating similar pressures.
