On the second episode of WOMAN with Lerny Lomotey, creative storyteller, Kuukua Eshun, offered a powerful glimpse into her journey as a filmmaker, mentor and advocate for purpose-driven artistry.
Speaking with host Lerny Lomotey, Kuukua reflected on some of her most notable works, including STRANGERS TO YOUR SEA, ARTIST ACT OF LOVE and BORN OF THE AIR.
The latter achieved a significant milestone when it was screened at the Dakar Biennale, widely regarded as Africa’s equivalent of the Venice Biennale and one of the most prestigious contemporary art showcases in the world. Held in Dakar, Senegal, the Biennale selects artists through a national representation process, making the recognition even more significant.
Kuukua also recounted her international tour across the United States, where she screened her work in cities including Chicago, Columbus and New York, expanding her reach and connecting with global audiences. Among her recent projects is I HAD THAT ONCE, a deeply introspective film that explores themes of purpose, spirituality and the human longing for something greater than oneself.
The film premiered in Ghana in collaboration with the Goethe-Institute, with a subsequent premiere in Columbus, Ohio. While it is not yet publicly available, Kuukua hinted at plans for another screening in Ghana due to growing demand.
Beyond her creative achievements, Kuukua emphasized her passion for mentorship and youth empowerment. She shared how her journey has allowed her to impact over 10,000 young people through school tours, workshops and speaking engagements both in Ghana and abroad. Her outreach has spanned institutions such as Accra Technical University, University of Ghana and University of Professional Studies, Accra, as well as numerous high schools.
Through these engagements, Kuukua focuses on equipping young creatives with practical knowledge in creative expression, digital marketing and monetisation. Areas she believes are critical yet often overlooked. Her recent collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority further highlights her commitment to building capacity within the creative industry.
Looking ahead, Kuukua revealed plans to intensify her impact in 2026 through workshops and masterclasses aimed at helping creatives refine their craft and amplify their visibility in an increasingly digital world.
At its core, Kuukua Eshun’s story is one of purpose, passion and impact. Using art not only as a medium of expression but as a tool for transformation.
