In a blockbuster move shaking up the NBA landscape, All-NBA superstar Luka Dončić has signed a three-year, $165 million maximum contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, his agent Bill Duffy of WME Basketball confirmed to ESPN.
The deal includes a player option for the 2028 season, giving Dončić flexibility while securing his immediate future in Los Angeles, where he is now expected to be the face of the franchise’s next era.
Dončić, 26, was acquired by the Lakers in a shocking trade earlier this year, and has since formed a formidable duo with fellow star Anthony Davis. Since arriving, the Slovenian guard has continued to dazzle with his elite playmaking, scoring ability, and clutch performances making him an instant fan favorite at Crypto.com Arena.
The $165 million deal marks one of the richest short-term contracts in league history and reaffirms the Lakers’ all-in approach to contending for a title in the coming seasons.
The Lakers are expected to build aggressively around Dončić in the coming off-seasons, with a clear goal: championship number 18.
