The Walt Disney Company is bringing one of its most beloved animated classics back to the big screen, this time in live-action. The first official poster for the upcoming MOANA remake has been unveiled, offering audiences a striking glimpse into what promises to be a visually rich and culturally grounded retelling of the iconic story.
Front and centre are Dwayne Johnson, reprising his role as the charismatic demigod Maui and rising star Catherine Laga’aia, who steps into the role of MOANA. The poster captures a powerful moment, both characters stand tall against crashing ocean waves, symbolising courage, destiny and the call of the sea themes that made the original film a global hit.
Johnson’s Maui appears larger-than-life, wielding his signature magical fishhook, while Laga’aia embodies a confident and determined MOANA, signalling a fresh yet faithful portrayal of the Polynesian heroine. Also making a return are fan-favourite companions, the quirky rooster Heihei and the lovable pig Pua, adding a touch of humour and nostalgia.
Originally released as an animated feature in 2016, MOANA quickly became a cultural phenomenon, praised for its storytelling, music, and representation of Pacific Island heritage. The live-action adaptation is expected to build on that legacy while introducing the story to a new generation with real-world textures, performances and cinematic depth.
The film is slated for a theatrical release on July 10, 2026, and anticipation is already building across social media, with fans eager to see how Disney balances authenticity, spectacle and nostalgia.
With a strong cast, an iconic story and the backing of Disney’s live-action success formula, MOANA is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about releases of the year.
