Monday's Confederation of African Football awards ceremony in Marrakesh marked a significant achievement for Nigeria. Victor Osimhen, recognized for his stellar performances with the Super Eagles and Napoli, was named the 2023 African Men's Footballer of the Year. In a parallel triumph, Asisat Oshoala clinched the African Women's Footballer of the Year award for an unprecedented sixth time.
Osimhen's CAF accolade follows his notable eighth-place finish in the men's Ballon d'Or vote, making him the first Nigerian to secure a spot in the top 10. Meanwhile, Oshoala's dominance in women's football was underlined as she earned the CAF Women's Player of the Year for the sixth time. Her instrumental role in leading Barcelona to Champions League glory, where she emerged as the top scorer with 27 goals across all competitions, contributed to her well-deserved recognition.

This historic achievement marks the first instance where both the Men's and Women's Players of the Year have hailed from the same country.
