Jamaican dancehall heavyweight, Popcaan, has been enstooled as a traditional chief in Ghana, strengthening the cultural bridge between the Caribbean and the African continent. The ceremony was held in the Asebu Traditional Area, where the internationally celebrated artiste was recognised for his global influence, cultural impact and consistent embrace of his African roots. Traditional authorities, community members and cultural stakeholders gathered to witness the significant occasion.

Traditional rites performed
At the ceremony, Popcaan was bestowed with the stool name Nana Arkoh Kese I and given the title Aboafohene. A designation typically reserved for individuals regarded as protectors, patrons or key contributors to community development. Clad in elaborate traditional attire, the dancehall star actively took part in the customary rites, signifying his formal acceptance into the chieftaincy institution and his symbolic integration into the Asebu community.
The enstoolment highlights Ghana’s enduring practice of honouring members of the African diaspora who elevate African culture on the world stage. For Popcaan, whose music often celebrates Black identity and ancestral pride, the recognition goes beyond ceremonial honour, it represents a renewed affirmation of shared heritage, cultural solidarity and the deep-rooted ties between Ghana and the global African diaspora.
