Ghanaian Reggae and Dancehall artiste, Samini, has officially released his eighth studio album, ORIGIN8A, using the project to reaffirm his place in the country’s music history while showcasing growth, mentorship and musical versatility.
Describing the album as a reminder rather than a reinvention, Samini explained that the title ORIGIN8A reflects longevity and contribution.
“It’s been a long time coming,” he said. “This is for those who just got to know me and those who’ve been here from the start. I’m an originator of something that’s here to stay.”
The 16-track album blends Reggae, Dancehall, Afrobeats and lover’s rock, continuing a sound many fans have come to associate with the artist’s mature phase. The project features notable collaborations with artistes such as Stonebwoy, KiDi, Kweku Flick and the Soweto Gospel Choir, alongside longtime collaborators like producer Master Garzy.
Samini revealed that while he recorded over 200 demos, only 16 songs made the final cut. A deliberate decision rooted in quality over quantity.
“I like to release albums two years apart,” he said. “I sieve what’s worthy of the people.”
A standout moment on the album is the collaboration with the Soweto Gospel Choir, a cross-border effort that was recorded remotely. Samini wrote the original melody, while the choir contributed a Swahili chorus translating to “Africa Shine.”
Beyond the music, Samini also reflected on how his approach to promotion has changed over the years. Rather than aggressive marketing, he now prefers a measured, confident rollout.
“If the music is good, people will come for it,” he said. “You don’t need to over-hype juice.”
With over two decades in the industry, from cassette tapes to digital streaming, Samini believes ORIGIN8A is proof that longevity, relevance and evolution can coexist.
“I’m still here,” he said. “Still performing, still creating, still being accessed.”
