Shalimar Abbiusi, spokesperson for the political group The New Force, has been granted bail in the amount of GH¢20,000 by the Kaneshie District Court after pleading not guilty to charges of obtaining a student permit through false declaration. The court session took place on December 11, 2023, with Judge Nana Abena Asor Owusu Amenyo presiding, and a return date set for December 19, 2023.
Abbiusi's legal representatives successfully secured her release on bail, emphasizing her commitment to adhering to legal proceedings. The charges against Abbiusi, brought forth by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), allege that she falsely declared herself a student of the Ghana Christian University College in the Greater Accra Region, intending to evade legal requirements. This declaration is said to have occurred on or before September 23, 2023.
The GIS contended that Abbiusi knowingly made a false declaration, leading to the acquisition of a student permit with the number 0088754. The case which gained public attention due to Abbiusi's prominent role as the spokesperson for The New Force political group. A video circulated on social media featured Abbiusi actively canvassing for support for the group.
