“They Called Me A Witch Because I Was Born With 12 Toes” — Enam Music
Enam
Enam, popularly known as Enam Music, is a Ghanaian Afro-spiritualist singer and songwriter whose artistry is deeply rooted in culture, ancestry and spiritual consciousness. Known for her powerful vocals and the intentional use of her Ewe heritage, Enam’s music often explores identity, healing and ancestral connection, setting her apart in Ghana’s alternative and Afro-spiritual music space.

In a recent interview with broadcaster Kafui Dey, the musician opened up about a deeply personal experience from her childhood that shaped parts of her journey. Enam revealed that she was born with twelve toes, a condition that led to her being labeled a witch by people around her while growing up. According to her, the stigma and misunderstanding attached to the condition exposed her early on to how society treats what it does not understand.

She further shared during the interview that she later underwent surgery to remove the extra toes. While the procedure addressed the physical aspect, Enam noted that the experience left a lasting emotional impact, influencing her outlook on life, spirituality, and self-expression.

Enam’s story adds another layer of depth to her music, which often challenges societal norms and reclaims narratives around spirituality, difference and African identity. Through both her sound and her personal truth, she continues to use her voice as a tool for healing, awareness, and cultural reconnection.
