Nearly 18 years after their explosive clashes defined an era in Dancehall, Vybz Kartel and Mavado are preparing to share the spotlight once again! This time on European soil.
The two dancehall heavyweights will headline a three-day festival in Malta from September 10–13, 2026 in what is being billed as a historic reunion of the legendary Gaza vs. Gully rivalry. Officially titled Freedom Street Europe 2026, the event marks a major cultural moment for fans who witnessed one of the most talked-about rivalries in Caribbean music history.
Staged at the Ta’ Qali Concert Area in Attard, the festival will dedicate two full nights to the Kartel versus Mavado showcase, with additional performers expected to be announced in the coming months. Promoters are branding the moment as an “18 years later” celebration, a nod to the intense musical face-offs that once captivated audiences across Jamaica and the wider diaspora.

Tickets went on presale earlier, followed by general sales shortly after, signalling strong demand from fans across Europe and beyond. Organisers say the 2026 edition aims to surpass the success of the inaugural Freedom Street staging in Malta last year, which attracted tens of thousands of attendees and cemented the island’s growing reputation as a hotspot for global dancehall events.
Beyond nostalgia, the reunion reflects dancehall’s enduring international influence. The rivalry between Vybz Kartel and Mavado not only shaped the sound and identity of late-2000s dancehall but also expanded its global reach. Bringing that energy back to the stage nearly two decades later, positions Freedom Street Europe 2026 as one of the most anticipated Caribbean music events on the international calendar.
For long-time fans and a new generation of listeners alike, Malta is set to become the epicentre of dancehall history in the making.
