One year after the death of her late husband Virgil Abloh, Shannon Abloh has spoken candidly about her life.
The family never anticipated that the cancer would be so aggressive. According to Shannon, "It wasn't like we knew that he was going to pass." Shannon made these revelations in a recent interview with The New York Times. She said that Virgil knew in July 2019 that he had the rare heart cancer cardiac angiosarcoma but decided to keep it a secret because he didn't want people to ask "Are you okay?"
Shannon Abloh describes the pandemic's final two years as appreciative of her experiences because they allowed her to spend those years in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, with Virgil. "I know that Covid was a very difficult experience for a lot of people, but for us, it was fantastic since Virgil didn't have to come up with reasons to skip DJing or gigs. Nobody was able to travel. Consequently, we were able to enjoy those final 2.5 years.”

Shannon Abloh is not just Virgil's partner in the Virgil Abloh Foundation and Virgil Abloh Securities, but she is also the mother of their two children, Grey, 6, and Lowe, 9. She also mentioned in the interview that the loss' pain altered her brain's chemistry and for the first six months, she had no short-term memory.
She said she had finally been able to move on from all of her pain, saying, "So we never had the 'this is the legacy that I want you to work for' debate. But after spending so much time with him, I was familiar with every inch of him. His entire intellect was familiar to me.
