Ghanaian music star Black Sherif has secured a nomination for Best International Act at the 2025 BET Awards, marking a significant milestone in his burgeoning career. This nomination positions him as the first Ghanaian artiste to be recognized in this category since the BET Awards merged the Best International Act: Africa and Best International Act: UK categories in 2018.
The 22-year-old artiste, known for his compelling storytelling and genre-blending sound, will compete against a diverse group of international talents. Nominees in the category include Nigeria’s Ayra Starr and Rema, South Africa’s Tyla, Swaziland’s Uncle Waffles, Brazil’s Any Gabrielly and MC Luanna, France’s Joé Dwèt Filé and SDM, and the UK’s Basky and Ezra Collective.
Black Sherif’s nomination follows his win for Best International Flow at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards, where he became the second Ghanaian artiste to receive the honour after Sarkodie’s 2019 victory. His music, which fuses elements of trap, highlife, and drill, has resonated with audiences globally, earning him a dedicated fan base and critical acclaim.
The 25th BET Awards ceremony is scheduled to air live on June 9th, 2025, from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with comedian Kevin Hart set to host the event . As anticipation builds, Black Sherif’s nomination stands as a testament to his rising influence and the growing global recognition of Ghanaian music.
