Rising Ghanaian singer and songwriter, Big Trei, has opened up about the inspiration behind her latest single, SORRY, describing it as a personal reflection on forgiveness, healing and starting the year on a clean slate.
Speaking on the Morning Bite segment, the fast-rising artiste explained that SORRY was intentionally released in January to align with themes of renewal and emotional release. According to her, the song encourages listeners to let go of past hurt and move forward without carrying emotional baggage into a new chapter.
“SORRY is about forgiveness,” she shared. “I don’t think we should start a new year holding grudges. We need to let go and move on.”
Big Trei revealed that the song was written in November last year after her manager sent her a beat and suggested she explore the theme of forgiveness. The emotional tone of the instrumental guided the songwriting process, resulting in a deeply reflective record that resonates with listeners navigating love, heartbreak and personal growth.
A trained nurse by profession, Big Trei officially began her music career just a year ago, though she admits music has always been a part of her life. Raised in a music-loving family, influenced by her mother and grandmother, she honed her skills singing in church and performing in a band during her senior high school days, where she was the only female member.
Big Trei’s journey into the industry took a major turn through TikTok, where she connected with producer Miracle Beats after recording an open verse over one of his instrumentals. Impressed by her talent, Miracle reached out, leading to a creative partnership that now defines much of her sound.
Producer Miracle Beats, who has worked on most of her songs, praised Big Trei’s natural talent and songwriting ability, noting that her authenticity sets her apart in a crowded industry.
Currently splitting time between Accra and Kumasi, Big Trei says her journey has been smooth so far, emphasising patience, consistency and growth. She draws inspiration from Afrobeat and R&B, citing artistes such. as Jackie, Tems, Wendy Shay, Justin Bieber and Chris Brown as influences, with Gyakie named as a dream collaborator.
