Ghanaian drill artiste Reggie has released a new extended play (EP), Guy Guy Mmienu, a project he says reflects his experiences of navigating music, relationships and life while staying true to his roots.
The six-track project offers a more personal side of the Kumasi-born rapper, who rose to prominence as one of the pioneers of Ghana’s Asakaa movement, the drill subgenre that brought the sounds and street culture of Kumasi to a global audience.
Known for blending melodic rap with Chicago-inspired drill rhythms, Reggie uses Twi, English and Ghanaian Pidgin to tell stories drawn from his life and the people around him.
On Guy Guy Mmienu, those stories move beyond the streets to explore themes of identity, love, friendship, ambition and loss, giving listeners a deeper insight into the person behind the music.
According to the artiste, the EP captures both the rewards and the challenges of pursuing a career in music while dealing with the pressures that come with growing fame.
To mark the release, Reggie and his management team, OSCASS 10 Enterprise, hosted an exclusive listening party on June 26 at Coaches Lounge in East Legon.
The event brought together fans, musicians, industry stakeholders, media personalities and other invited guests, who had the opportunity to listen to the project before interacting with the artiste.
The listening session also highlighted the creative process behind the EP and Reggie’s growth since emerging as one of the leading voices from the Asakaa movement.
Since helping popularise the Kumasi drill sound, Reggie has built a reputation for lyricism rooted in everyday experiences, often drawing inspiration from his upbringing and the realities of life on the streets.
His storytelling has become a defining feature of his music, setting him apart within Ghana’s rapidly evolving hip-hop scene.
The release of Guy Guy Mmienu comes at a time when Asakaa continues to influence Ghanaian music beyond drill, with many of its leading artistes experimenting with new sounds while maintaining the authenticity that first attracted audiences.
OSCASS 10 Enterprise, which manages the artiste, said its support was central to bringing the project to life, working closely with Reggie throughout the production and release process.
With Guy Guy Mmieneu, Reggie adds another body of work to his growing catalogue as he seeks to strengthen his place among Ghana’s emerging rap talents and expand the reach of the Asakaa sound beyond its traditional audience.
