Lionel Messi Ends Career?
Lionel Messi has expressed serious doubts about continuing his football career following the death of his father, Jorge Messi.
Jorge Messi, 68, died on August 8, 2026, in Rosario, Argentina, after a prolonged illness. He had long served as his son’s agent and closest advisor.
In an emotional tribute posted on social media, the 39-year-old Inter Miami forward revealed that his father had urged him to take part in the 2026 World Cup despite his deteriorating health. Argentina reached the final but finished as runners-up.
Messi wrote that he now has “serious doubts” about how much longer he wants to keep playing, saying he does not know how to continue without his father by his side.
The Argentine star, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, has a contract with Inter Miami that runs through 2028.
