At the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, Kendrick Lamar solidified his place in music history by becoming the most-awarded rapper of all time, surpassing Jay-Z’s long-standing record. With 27 Grammy wins across his career, Lamar now stands atop the Recording Academy’s all-time list for hip-hop artistes.
The Compton native delivered another unforgettable night, adding five Grammy Awards to his collection, the second year in a row he’s walked away with five trophies. Leading the nominations with nine entries, Lamar proved dominant in both rap and general categories.
Last night’s Wins Included:
Best Rap Album — GNX
Record of the Year — LUTHER (with SZA)
Best Melodic Rap Performance — LUTHER (with SZA)
Best Rap Song — TV OFF (featuring Lefty Gunplay)
Best Rap Performance — CLIPSE’S CHAIN & WHIPS (featuring Lamar)
These victories brought Lamar’s career total to 27 Grammy Awards, edging past Jay-Z’s 25 and setting a new benchmark for rappers in Grammy history.
Lamar’s GNX, released in late 2024 has been one of the defining albums of his era, spawning chart-topping singles and earning critical acclaim around the globe. The album’s success, coupled with high-profile collaborations like LUTHER with SZA, helped fuel his sweep of major categories.
His Record of the Year win for LUTHER marked yet another crossover achievement, as the track dominated both mainstream and Hip-Hop charts in 2025. Lamar’s collaborations this awards season reaffirmed his versatility and broad appeal across musical styles.
The Grammys also celebrated other historic moments, including Bad Bunny’s win for Album of the Year. The first time a Spanish-language album has taken the top honour and standout performances from artistes across genres.
With this landmark, Kendrick Lamar not only extends his legacy but redefines what Hip-Hop greatness looks like on music’s biggest stage.
The 68th Annual Grammy Awards honoured music released between August 31, 2024 and August 30, 2025, with Kendrick Lamar leading both nominations and wins in rap categories. Trevor Noah hosted the ceremony in his final year as Grammys MC.
