Global music superstars Burna Boy and Shakira delivered one of the standout moments of the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony, taking center stage at the iconic Estadio Azteca ahead of the tournament's opening match between Mexico and South Africa.

The duo performed Dai Dai, the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, before a packed crowd of over 80,000 fans, with dazzling visuals, fireworks, dancers, and a giant World Cup trophy prop adding to the spectacle.

The performance marked a historic moment for both artistes. For Shakira, it was her fourth World Cup appearance, further cementing her status as one of football's most iconic musical figures following classics such as Waka Waka.

Burna Boy, meanwhile, became one of the leading African voices on football's biggest stage, bringing Afrobeats to a global audience as part of FIFA's opening celebrations.

Their performance of Dai Dai served as the centerpiece of a star-studded ceremony that also featured appearances from J Balvin, Belinda, Maná, Tyla, Alejandro Fernández, and several other international acts.

The ceremony officially launched the biggest World Cup in history, featuring 48 nations and 104 matches across Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

While fan reactions to the performance were mixed online, the appearance by Burna Boy and Shakira generated significant buzz worldwide and underscored the growing influence of African and Latin music on the global stage.
