Emerging Ghanaian alternative R&B artiste Baves O says working with award-winning rapper M.anifest has opened significant opportunities for his career as he seeks to establish himself in the country’s music industry.
Speaking on Culture Daily on 3Music TV and Pluzz FM, the 21-year-old musician described the collaboration as a surprising moment that helped increase attention on his music.
According to Baves O, he first heard M.anifest’s contribution to their song through his manager while he was in Kumasi.
“I was in Kumasi and my manager called me and said he wanted me to hear something. He was playing a song and it got to one minute. Then it went past one minute, and I heard M.anifest’s voice. I was like, wow,” he said.
The artiste said he was shocked that a musician of M.anifest’s stature had agreed to work with him.
“I was actually shocked because I was thinking, how is this possible for a young person like me? Coming into this space and I have Manifest on the track. It is a big opportunity for people to get to know me. It has opened plenty doors for me,” he said.
Baves O revealed that after the initial collaboration, he later met M.anifest in person and worked on additional music with him.
He said the rapper told him he admired his songwriting abilities.
The singer also shared his experience meeting Manifest for the first time, admitting that he was nervous because of the rapper’s reputation in the industry.
“At first, I thought I couldn’t even get close because he’s a legend and a big star. But when we met, it was cool. We were vibing like we had known each other before,” he said.
The collaboration appears on Baves O’s newly released EP, Are You With Me?, which was released this week.
The six-track project explores themes of love, heartbreak, and healing and features Manifest as the only guest artiste.
Baves O, who also produces his own music, said he hopes the project will introduce listeners to a different sound within Ghana’s growing alternative music scene.
He encouraged music fans to remain open to new styles and genres.
“They should open their ears for new stuff and be open to learning new things. They shouldn’t close their minds and think this is the only thing we do here,” he said.
