Burundian singer Vania Ice has said that programmes connecting African artistes are giving musicians from smaller music markets opportunities they rarely get at home.

Speaking on The Big Convo segment of Culture Daily on 3Music TV and Pluzz 89.9 FM, the artiste described her first visit to Ghana as the fulfilment of a long-held ambition.

She said Burundi’s relatively small music industry and the widespread use of Kirundi make it difficult for local artists to gain international recognition.

Vania also highlighted structural challenges facing musicians in her country, noting that YouTube is not monetised in Burundi, limiting earning opportunities for local creators.

She said participating in the Amplify Her programme had allowed her to meet established African artists, record new music and learn that many musicians across the continent face similar professional challenges.

“It is opening doors for me,” she said, adding that appearing in Ghana and sharing studios with artists she had previously only seen online had strengthened her confidence.

During the programme, Vania said she had made valuable industry contacts and was hoping to explore future collaborations with Ghanaian musicians after meeting managers during her visit.
