Victoria Remi Nkong Pushes For Stronger Support For Women In Africa's Music Industry

Entertainment consultant and event producer Victoria Remi Nkong has said that women in Africa’s music industry need more opportunities to develop sustainable careers through mentorship, education and collaboration.

Speaking on the Morning Bite segment on Culture Daily morning show on 3Music TV and Pluzz 89.9 FM, Victoria said her organisation’s Amplify Her programme was designed to help female artists build successful careers beyond recording music.

The initiative, organised in partnership with Institut Français de Paris, Jambo Spaces Ghana and Morfea in Cameroon, brings together women from across Africa for training in music business, studio collaborations and performance.

The programme begins with music business training in Cameroon before participants travel to Lagos for workshops and recording sessions with established artists and producers.

The final phase takes place in Ghana, where participants learn about music monetisation before showcasing the songs created during the programme.

Victoria said this year’s edition involved female artists from across Africa working alongside experienced musicians and executives while producing around 50 collaborative tracks.

She said the organisation focuses on helping artists understand publishing, distribution, contracts and career management so they can turn music into a sustainable profession.

“We want to stop the trajectory of stars living in fame and dying poor,” she said.

Victoria added that one of her long-term goals is to help young creatives build careers that generate lasting income while also changing international perceptions of Africa by promoting the continent’s creative excellence.

The Ghana leg of the programme concludes with a live showcase featuring artists including Nigerian-American singer Lami Phillips and Burundian musician Vania Ice, alongside other participants from across Africa.
