Court Throws Out Nyinahin Catholic SHS Altercation Case; Urges Parties To Reconcile

The assault case between a teacher and a student at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School has been dismissed by the Toase District Court.

The viral video on social media involving a physical altercation on campus, caused a great deal of public outrage. 

The lawsuit started after the teacher named Eric Afful was shown on camera repeatedly hitting a female pupil before picking her up and throwing her to the ground.

The teacher was arrested as a result of the video, which sparked public outcry.

When the case was brought before the court, it urged the parties and their families to seek an out-of-court settlement and reconciliation as a means of reaching a peaceful resolution.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Professor Elvis Binney urged members of the public and civil society groups to desist from demeaning the teacher after the proceedings.

Additionally, he asked people to refrain from threatening Mr. Afful while attempts are made to settle the issue amicably.
