Jonathan Mensah Finds New Passion In Sports Photography

Former Ghanaian international defender, Jonathan Mensah has ventured into photography after officially retiring from football. 

The former Black Stars center-back, who played for Ghana at two FIFA World Cups, is now focused on capturing the emotion, intensity, and memorable moments of the game from behind the camera.

His goal is to document football's biggest stages, beginning with the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup through a storyteller's lens rather than as a player on the field.

Mensah has already started building his portfolio ahead of the tournament, starting with a coverage of some international friendly matches, notably the pre-World Cup between Ecuador and Guatemala. 

Mensah started his football career at Ashanti Gold SC in Ghana before moving abroad to play for Free State Stars FC in South Africa.

His performances saw him move to Italy to Udinese Calcio where he gained experience on loan to teams such as Granada CF in Spain.

After that, he had a spell with Evian Thonon Gaillard FC in France’s Ligue 1 before joining FC Anzhi Makhachkala in Russia, where he was with the club through some difficult times.
