Ghanaian musician D.H says his latest EP, Haniwaya, marks a new stage in his artistic journey as he embraces his Ghanaian roots while blending influences from Afrobeats, hip-hop and trap.

Speaking on the Morning Bite segment of Culture Daily on 3Music TV and Pluzz 89.9 FM, the artist, whose real name is David Hansen, said incorporating local identity into his music had always been part of his long-term vision.

“It’s always been a part of my plans to incorporate this side of my heritage,” he said.

According to D.H., he deliberately waited until he felt mature enough creatively before fully introducing that aspect of his music.

“I’ve always had that incorporation, but now I’m just ready to show it to the world,” he said.

The title of the EP, Haniwaya, a Ghanaian expression encouraging people to move or keep going, reflects what he described as his current mindset.

“For me, this period of my career… I’ve been in a mindset where I’m very much on go mode,” he said.

D.H explained that fusion genres require patience and purpose rather than being forced together.

“I feel like fusion genres… come with a story. There’s a lot of meaning behind them,” he said.

The project features tracks including Blow Up, I Love It, What You Need, No Delay, Face Me, Je and Stana.

He said Blow Up reflects his experiences as he began receiving wider recognition online, while Face Me was intended as a confident statement introducing his artistic identity.

D.H also revealed that the title track gained attention on TikTok months before its release, with followers repeatedly asking him to officially release the song.

The musician, who studies financial management at Loughborough University in the UK, said balancing life between Accra and Britain has shaped both his perspective and his music.

“I’m very grateful because it’s not everyone that’s able to experience different perspectives like that,” he said.

He is expected to headline A Night with D.H. at Aria in Accra, where he and his collective, GR8, will perform songs from the new EP alongside guest artists.
